Our Story
Why we're bringing the community together

Waylon's journey, hospital days, and the family moments that shaped Margarita Eats in the Park
Waylon's Journey
Our son Waylon was born with Hirschsprung's Disease. Within days of his birth at Sierra Vista in San Luis Obispo, he was airlifted to Valley Children's Hospital in Madera, California.
At just 10 days old, Waylon underwent life-saving surgery. We spent the next three weeks recovering at VCH - scared, hopeful, and holding onto every small victory.
That experience changed everything for our family. My wife stepped away from work to care for Waylon and our daughter, and it pushed me to build something of my own through Kingz Contracting & Media.
Why This Event?
It started with a simple thought: there's limited options to grab food easily in Santa Margarita on Sunday afternoons and evenings. So we thought - why not bring the food trucks here? And while we're at it, why not bring awareness to a disease most people have never even heard of?
We're generally a private family. A GoFundMe didn't feel right when everything was so chaotic. But this? This felt like the right way to do it - bring the community together, let locals from Santa Margarita and across SLO County try some great food, support local businesses, and raise awareness all at the same time.
"This event is our way of turning what was the hardest time in our lives into something meaningful - for our community and for other families walking this road."
How You Can Help
Come hungry. Our food trucks are local businesses here to serve great food. Supporting them keeps them coming back - and if we can make this a recurring event, we want them excited to return.
Donate if you can. This event is self-funded by our family. Any donations go toward recovering event costs, medical bills from Waylon's surgery, and his continued care (we still have ongoing appointments and unknowns for the foreseeable future). 5% goes directly to REACHto support Hirschsprung's research and advocacy.
No pressure - just showing up and enjoying the day with your community means the world to us.

Understanding the condition and why awareness matters
What is Hirschsprung's?
Hirschsprung's Disease is a congenital condition affecting the nerve endings in the colon. It occurs in about 1 in 5,000 births and prevents normal bowel movements.
The condition is managed through surgery (called a pull-through procedure) to remove the affected section of the colon and reconnect healthy tissue.
Symptoms in newborns include constipation, abdominal distension, and feeding issues. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial for successful outcomes.
REACH(Research, Education & Advocacy for Children with Hirschsprung's) is a non-profit dedicated to improving the lives of children and families affected by HD. 5% of all donations from this event go directly to REACH.
